This is correct. The CD is on Manticore and it is a German pressing. > Does anybody have this > version and/or could verify the fact. Yes, I have it, but I'm at work at the moment so can't check it right away... > If so, does anybody know > where I could get a copy? Or at least a definite way of identifying > the version if I were to mail order it somehow. I can check it when I get home. It was indeed a pleasant surprise when I first head it... though in all fairness I must say that the piece doesn't suffer a bit from the split, since it obviously was designed from start to be split at the synth arpeggio. Of course on CD there's no need to split it. > Thanks, > Andy BTW: For you completists out there, I've seen a Russian LP pressing on the Melodiya label of "Emerson Lake & Powell" (has been probably since it came out, but I've forgotten to mention it). - -- Ola Rinta-Koski -- J{mer{ntaival 1 A 57 -- 02150 Espoo - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Whatever happened to pillow fights, Friday nights and jeans so tight, lover's lane, passion games, Sunday walks in the pouring rain... Anyone have it? About Asia: Live Mockba- I was quite happy with this disc actually. You have to be able to appreciate Asia a lot though. The King Crimson tracks, IMHO, are awesome. I really like the fact that they were included-- it's a pleasant surprise. Kari-Anne is pretty weak, but overall the disc is well worth the money I think. Just an opinion though! HR Giger: Celtic Frost has some giger album covers, and are quite interesting. Check 'em out! Anyone have any "unreleased" stuff by ELP? I have a concert from the Works Volume II tour, as well as a radio show from 75 or so. Both are decent to good sound quality. If interested, let me know. This got me thinking: What songs by ELP have been covered by other bands? I know of exactly NONE. (Well, now I know of one, sort of). Does anyone know anything more about this Honeymoon Killers cover? Does anyone know of any other ELP songs that have been covered by other musicians? So, here they are. Note that a drawbar setting of "8" is all the way out. Any blank locations in the table below can be read as "0," ie, the drawbar is all the way in. Drawbar:1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 foot: 16 5.33 8 4 2.66 2 1.6 1.33 1 scale: -8 5 1 8 12 15 17 19 22nd note: C2 G3 C3 C4 G4 C5 E5 G5 C6 Keith Emerson: Vibrato: C3 Perc: short, third. 8 8 8 lower manual: 8 8 windmill: 8 Booker T. Jones: no vibrato usually. Very little percussion. Green Onions, 1st chorus: 8 8 8 8 2nd chorus: 8 8 8 8 Santana (Tom Coster): Vibrato: C3 Perc: no comment. 8 8 8 8 "Jesse Crawford" (theatre organ) sound: play with open chords: 8 8 Joey De Francesco: Vibrato: C3 Perc: short, third. 8 8 8 4 8 Rod Argent: 8 8 It's interesting to me that there were no subtle settings listed, ie, the drawbars were either all the way out, or half way out, or all the way in. If you try to imitate a Hammond Organ with a synth, note that the drawbar frequency ratios are NOT pure harmonic multiples, but rather well-tempered approximations. The "C3" "vibrato" setting isn't a vibrato at all, but a moderately fast, moderately heavy chorusing. I'm going to add to this list as I get additional information, so if you know of any interesting B3 setups, I'd be glad to hear from you. He suggested that maybe this isn't as common knowledge as I thought, and that I should submit it to the digest... - ------------------------------------- Perhaps this is common knowledge to the ELP fan, but you didn't mention it in your article about Geiger.... According to something I read a long time ago, in Penthouse I believe, "Brain Salad Surgery" is an English slang term for giving head. If you look at the BSS album cover, you can see an airbrushed penis just below the woman's mouth. It's kind of hazed over and doesn't really jump out at you, but it's there. Not that this has anything to do with why they used Geiger's art, but at least that's a tie between the title of the album and the art. The real meaning is probably some inside joke. Keith once said they didn't include the *song* BSS on the album BSS to prevent folks from thinking that song was *the* song on the album. - -Burch Seymour- bseymour@encore.com ===================================================================== ------------------------------ Return-Path: HESSIAN@corral.uwyo.edu Date: Wed, 12 Feb 1992 10:01 MST From: HESSIAN Subject: Where to put it? To: elp@xero.cbm.dec.com Hello ELPers, I'm new to the list and have a question. I own a big book called "Rock Movers and Shakers." It contains a fairly good variety of summarized histories of bands and artists in a pseudo-timeline form. Of course ELP is in there and I would be willing to transcribe it for the list if there is somewhere to put it. Someone please tell me where to send. If this list doesn't have an archivesomewhere I could always just send it to the digest if everyone would like to have it.
