* Remembering Keith Emerson on his birthday

Editor's Note:

I know it's been a long, long time since I sent an ELP Digest.

At this time last year, I was in the midst of getting ramped up at a new job and was doing quite a bit of work travel. So, the Digest got put on the back curner. In the Spring, I was trying to get myself ramped back up to send out the Digest again.

It was looking like a promising year. Carl was starting to roll out his tour plans for 2016 and Keith was within a month or so of having some appearances in Japan.

And, then on March 11, after landing on the red eye back from a work trip to San Francisco, I got the call that Keith Emerson had died. For those of you you hadn't heard the news until now, I'm sorry to have to tell you. For the details, I'll let you Google it. But I prefer to look at the tributes that came from many corners - family, friends, and fellow musicians all spoke about what a great *person* Keith was. Not just a great musician, but a kind, funny, generous, and wonderful person.

So, today, on his birthday this year, I'm not celebrating as much as I am honoring him. I'm thankful for the music and legacy he's left for us and I'm grateful that I knew him just a little bit having met him and talked to him a few times.

So, I'm going to keep this Digest short and leave us all a few moments to remember, to reflect, and to honor Keith.

And I'll take special note again of the reflections that Carl and Greg posted on Keith's web site right after they got the news.

I'll try to do my part to honor his legacy by trying to find time to be a little more active with the ELP Digest and the related web activity.

And we can celebrate the ELP Digest's 25th Birthday later.

So... until next time...

Hope all is well with you and yours...

- John -
