To: elp-digest-web@reluctant.com From: Don Goodman Subject: Toronto Show Date: 8/20/98 9:03 AM Ladies and Gentlemen, EMERSON, lake AND PALMER. Have to agree with most other reviews. Really good show. Far better than with Tull a couple of years ago. Keith and Carl were sizzling. Their solos and playing in general outstanding. But Greg? What’s up? He seemed distant, like he’d rather be somewhere else. His voice was good and strong, but his playing seemed a bit less than his normal high standard. A couple of smiles late in the set offered some reprieve but he did not seem to be having nearly as good a time as the others. Judging by the approval of the crowd, ELP would have no trouble headlining a show in Toronto. COME BACK SOON! I’LL BE THERE! Otherwise, sorry, don’t get Dream Theater. They had a rather muddled mix which may not have helped. Deep Purple was good, tight and loud. Steve Morse is an excellent guitarist, but he seems to be dominating the show musically.
