Anyway last night's was another fine performance from the band. The set list is the same as the reviews on 8,9,11,12 and the 15th. The only thing that no one else has mention is the finish of Tarkus. On the live album "Welcome back My ..." it ends with the Moog synth slowly going faster and faster. The last night slow ended the same way. A single spot light in blue on Keith's Moog, you could see one group of lights moving left to right going faster and faster until the end. It appears that the encore was the best difference in the show, it lasted about 20 minutes. It's starts the same, with Fanfare, 21st Century Schizoid Man, a quote from some classical piece, my wife calls it "bumble bee" and then into Carl's solo. Well I have to tell you, Carl can beat that silly rabbit on TV any day. He just went ON and ON and ON. Both of my sons were astounded at his speed. Carl went from the snare to cymbals work to toms, and everything else in betweenplaying clean all along the way. When Keith and Greg came back out they went back into keyboard work by Keith INCLUDING that poor old L100 getting stabbed and tossed around. Keith also did some upside down work from on top of the baby grand piano. The encore finished with Rondo to a standup crowd. This is my 5th ELP show, my 1st was Blackmoon in 1992 at Universal, a double header with Jethro Tull/ELP at Irvine on one night and Universal on the next, and of course last years world tour with the stop at Universal. Considering that last night's crowd wasn't a sellout, upper deck was empty like last years ELP only concert, I'd say this was a mostly ELP night. Or you could say things cooled down when Deep Purple came on. I couldn't stay until the end, but I doubt things got any hotter for Deep Purple. Waiting for another recharge from Carl before my batteries run out. Steve
