Prelude
=======

I've got a lot of ELP messages in the backlog now that "In the Hot Seat" has
been released pretty much everywhere. So, if yours isn't here, please hang
on. It should appear in an issue or two. And, to make up for it, I'll be
sending out Digests over the next few days to get the backlog cleared out.

Also, it's Keith's birthday, so "Happy Birthday, Keith!". It's also the 3rd
anniversary of the ELP Digest as an Internet publication. So, happy
birthday to us! And, as always, thanks to everyone who helps make the ELP
Digest so informative and so much fun!

One minor correction to the transcriptions list:
"Simple Gifts" is a traditional Shaker tune, not written by Aaron
Copland. Copland lifted it for thematic material to evoke the "pastoral
American spirit" in "Appalachian Spring". Keith follows a well-established
tradition! :-) Keith's arrangement was from the original, as were the
other contributors in that issue of KEYBOARD.

I vaguely remember seeing something about Greg Lake (I think) having released
a Christmas album sometime in the past. Is it still available? And is
it available on CD? I really like ...Father Christmas and with the
Christmas season coming, I thought it might be nice to have something
a little different.

Thanks!

Subject: Additional tracks to ItHS!!!!!

I am on the Polygram Canada mailing list and last week they posted info
on ItHS and they said (and I've called them to check this out) that ItHS in
Canada will ALSO contain a 15 min. live version of "Pictures At An Exhibition"!
(eg. the version from the box set I was told). Is this in Canada only or
is everyone getting this? I've never noticed messages about this aspect before
so......

Can't wait to get it!

Hi Bette,

There is a great list for the Moody Blues. You can subscribe by emailing to:

	lost-chords-request@mit.edu

The address for posting to the list is:

	lost-chords@mit.edu

One of the members of the list is Randy Salas, who publishes a fan magazine
called "Higher & Higher". Randy's name appears in the "thank-you"s of the
boxed set (Time Traveller) that just came out. And recently there was an
online chat session with the band!

An advance "welcome aboard" to you,

I have an update and a modification to the quotations list:

>"Nutrocker" (by Kim Foley)

Let's not forget that this entire piece quotes the theme from
Tchaikowsky's _Nutcracker_ suite.

_Take a Pebble_ (_Emerson Lake & Palmer_) piano improvisation
quotes entire theme of J.S. Bach's _Two Part Invention #1_.

John, any chance of adding a repository of midi files to either the
Web Page or FTP archives? I am sure that many of the digest
subscribers have material to contribute and I find the easiest way to
learn a new tune is to study / play along with a midi track. It may
not have the most expressive style but it is a good place to start.
Maybe you could toss this idea out to the masses and see if there is
any feedback. Later...Clint...

I have heard the bootleg CD "Live in Anaheim 1975," and it

After reading Mark's review of Greg's second album, a few brain cells
that have not been used in a long time got triggered. I saw Greg on tour
with his second album. It was in a small place (less than 1000 people).
Gary Moore was with him. He played about 1/3 from his solo stuff, 1/3 ELP,
and 1/3 King Crimson. At the time I forgot he played in King Crimson and
was pleasantly surprised by the songs. I remember wishing he played some
more solo stuff. He could have easily because the show was a short 75 minutes.
The most interesting thing was that ther was someone else playing bass along
with Greg. The whole show had a thundering bass sound especially on Fanfare
For The Common Man. Sorry, the brain cells that had the set list are
probably long dead.

This list is not associated with or endorsed by the Moody Blues or the
Official Fan Club in any way. Currently, it carries about 15-25 unmoderated
messages per day. I am not a subscriber, I merely pass on the address.

ITHS was released today in the US (as was the Best of CD). I've just gone
through it for the first time and will probably have to give it a few more
listens before I decide if I like it or not.

Hopefully, the new CD means that a tour will be forthcoming. I'd be
interested to know if any subscribers to the Digest would have any
suggestions on how to get decent tickets when they go on sale. I've tried
buying tickets the day that they go on sale and I've been stuck in some
pretty bad seats. I saw ELP twice on the last tour and had such an
obstructed view at one show that the ushers apologized and moved me into the
center of the first row. Since I doubt that I'll get that lucky again I want
to make sure that I get decent seats from the outset. Any suggestions?

Well folks, ITHS was released today (Tuesday 10-18) in the US. The local
music shop didn't order many copies (as may be true of others) and I got the
last of the two copies they received. So, if you really want it, you might
wish to go shopping for it tomorrow (or as soon as you read this post).

As I sit here listening to it, I must admit, even as a lifelong ELP fan
(having followed Keith from his Nice days), I am not only less than
impressed, I am downright displeased. Perhaps it will grow on me, but In The
Hot Seat doesn't warm me up (yet). I was also somewhat upset with the lack of
lyrics in the jacket.

I know you have all read several reviews of the CD from those privledged
(lucky??) enough to have heard it earlier, and we can now all become critics.
Although disappointed overall, I was pleased with the re-do of Pictures
(although Greg's voice does have to work hard).

Anyway, it's here. Let's look forward to a '95 concert tour.

Take care.
